Débuts difficiles pour Barrier et Black

Malgré un bon début de course, Sylvain Barrier et Gregg Black n’ont pu concrétiser à Valencia pour la première manche de la Coupe FIM Superstock 1000, l’un chutant et l’autre étant contraint à l’abandon en raison d’un problème technique.

Sylvain Barrier réussissait une belle envolée depuis la première ligne de la grille de départ. A l’issue du premier tour, il était pointé deuxième derrière Claudio Corti (Suzuki). Il se maintenait pendant 9 tours (sur un total de 13) dans le groupe de tête composé de 5 pilotes : Corti, Maxime Berger (Honda), Xavier Siméon (Ducati), Javi Fores (Kawasaki) et donc Sylvain. Malheureusement dans la boucle suivante la moto lui échappait et il chutait, heureusement sans gravité.

Gregg Black n’était pas plus chanceux. Parti 26^ème, il était déjà 16^ème à l’issue des premier et deuxième tours, mais il connaissait des problèmes de frein qui le contraignaient à l’abandon.

Sylvain Barrier : «Le début de course a été correct. J’ai pris un bon départ et j’étais 2^ème dans le 1^er virage. J’ai suivi le rythme tout en étant prudent car les pneus n’étaient pas encore à bonne température. J’ai ensuite été déboîté par deux pilotes dans la ligne droite et je suis passé 4^ème. Pour pouvoir lutter contre les deux autres, j’ai essayé une trajectoire différente. Je suis rentré plus large dans un virage, mais j’ai croisé l’avant sur des bosses. Je suis déçu car je pouvais finir 4^ème. »

Gregg Black : « J’ai pris un bon départ, passant de la 26^ème à la 16^ème place. Dans le deuxième tour, je suis remonté sur Ortega qui était devant moi. Mais au 3^ème tour le levier de frein venait toucher le guidon et j’ai du abandonner. C’est dommage car Ortega finit 8^ème. Une place parmi les 10 premiers était possible. »

Michel Garnier, propriétaire du team : « On ne peut pas faire grand-chose face à une moto comme la Ducati. Sylvain s’est emballé. Il aurait fallu conserver la 4^ème ou la 5^ème place. Il restait 3 tours et il avait de la marge. Gregg a eu des problèmes de frein avant. »

Difficult beginning for Black and Barrier

Both started well, but unfortunately Gregg Black and Sylvain Barrier did not have much luck later in the first race of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup in Valencia (Spain). One had to retire because of a technical problem and the other one crashed.

Gregg Black started 26^th and was quickly 16^th after a very good start. He stayed in that position for the first two laps, but his brakes stopped working properly and he had to retire in the pits.

Sylvain Barrier started well also, from the 4^th position on the front row. After the first lap, he was second behind Claudio Corti (Suzuki). During 9 laps out of 23 he was with the leading group of 5 riders: Corti, Xavier Simeon (Ducati), Maxime Berger (Honda), Javi Fores (Kawasaki) and Sylvain. Unfortunately he crashed on the next lap.

Sylvain Barrier: « The beginning of the race was correct. I had a good start and I was second in the first curve. I was careful because the temperature of the tyres was not hot enough yet. Two riders passed me in the main straight and I went to 4^th position. I tried a new line to pass these guys, so a entered a corner wide. But I lost the front on some bumps. It’s a shame because I could have finished 4^th.”

Gregg Black: « My start was good, from the 26^th to the 16^th position. In the second lap, I was closing the gap on Ortega who was in front of me. But on the third lap my front brake was not working properly anymore and I had to retire. Considering that Ortega finished 9^th, a top 10 finish would have been possible.”

Michel Garnier, team owner: « There is not we can do against the Ducati. Sylvain wanted too much too soon. He should have kept the 5^th position. With 3 laps to go, he had a good margin. Gregg retired because of a front brake problem.”
